Description of the innovative solution

Collaboration Drone technology Sharing economy

Solar-powered drones have the potential to deliver seeds and other agricultural inputs to hard-to-reach areas, particularly after disasters, in an environmentally friendly way. This method of drone delivery promises to drastically improve the quality of life for many people, by improving food security. Places that might lack the necessary infrastructure to get seed or other agricultural inputs easily or areas that have recently been subject to disasters, such as natural disaster or war, usually face problems with food security. By giving the farmers in these areas access to necessary agricultural inputs food security could be greatly improved. Additionally, by using solar-powered, the environmental impact of this practice of delivery is almost zero. With the delivery of seeds and agricultural inputs by solar-powered drones, global food security could be increased and the lives of many could be bettered, without much environmental cost.

Pathways to uptake

Engage with our “backcasting tool” to imagine and design “pathways to uptake” for this solution in your setting.

This process involves defining a future vision of this solution being used in your context, and then working “backwards” to identify necessary steps to achieve this vision by 2030. Going through this exercise as an individual or with a team can help to clarify the WHAT/WHEN/HOW of moving a solution (or package of solutions) towards having major impact. We hope these pathways will inspire outside-of-the-box thinking, creative approaches, and actionable concrete steps to move ideas into action.
